Early Life and Education


Yukta Mookhey was born on October 7, 1977, in Bangalore, India, to a Marathi family. Her father, Inderlal Mookhey, was an officer in the Indian Navy, and her mother, Aruna Mookhey, was a homemaker. She spent her childhood in various parts of India, including Mumbai and Delhi, due to her father's job.


Yukta completed her schooling from different schools due to her father's frequent transfers. She completed her high school education from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Colaba in Mumbai, and later earned a degree in Zoology from V.G. Vaze College in Mulund, Mumbai.


Career


Modeling


Yukta Mookhey began her career as a model while still in college. She participated in various beauty pageants and won titles such as Miss Mumbai and Miss Asia-Pacific in 1998. The same year, she represented India at the Miss World pageant held in Seychelles and was crowned Miss World, becoming the fourth Indian woman to win the title.


After winning the Miss World title, Yukta received various modeling offers and worked with many leading fashion designers and brands. She was also featured in several advertisements and music videos.

Acting


Yukta Mookhey made her acting debut with the Hindi film Pyaasa in 2002, opposite Aftab Shivdasani. She then appeared in a few more Hindi films, including Love in Japan and Memsahab, before taking a break from acting.


In 2009, she made her comeback with the Kannada film Ugly Aur Pagli, which was a box office hit. She also acted in a few more Kannada films, including Good, Bad and Ugly and Yaksha.


Controversies


Yukta Mookhey was involved in a few controversies during her career. In 2013, she filed a complaint against her husband, Prince Tuli, accusing him of domestic violence and harassment. She alleged that he had physically and mentally abused her and threatened to kill her and her family. The couple later got divorced in 2014.


In 2018, Yukta was in the news again when she filed a complaint against a man who had allegedly sent her obscene messages and threatened to harm her and her family. The man was arrested by the police.


Personal Life


Yukta Mookhey got married to Prince Tuli, a New York-based businessman, in 2008. The couple had a traditional Hindu wedding in Mumbai, which was attended by many Bollywood celebrities. However, their marriage hit a rough patch, and they got divorced in 2014.


In 2018, Yukta got married to her longtime friend and businessman, Abhijit Sen Gupta, in a private ceremony in Mumbai.


Philanthropy


Apart from her career in modeling and acting, Yukta Mookhey is also involved in various social and humanitarian causes. She has been associated with organizations working towards the welfare of women and children and has worked towards spreading awareness about issues such as child abuse and domestic violence.


In 2008, she also launched her own foundation, the Yukta Mookhey Foundation, which aims to work towards the empowerment of women and children.
