Ajit Singh was born on February 12, 1939, in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. He was the son of former Prime Minister of India, Charan Singh, and Gayatri Devi. Ajit Singh completed his education from the University of Lucknow and later pursued a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.


Ajit Singh's Political Career:


Ajit Singh's political career began in the 1980s when he joined the Janata Party. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, in 1989 from the Baghpat constituency. In 1991, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha from the same constituency.


In 1996, Ajit Singh founded the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), a political party based in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The RLD was formed with the aim of promoting the interests of farmers and rural communities. In the 1998 Lok Sabha elections, Ajit Singh was re-elected from the Baghpat constituency as an RLD candidate.


In 2001, Ajit Singh was appointed as the Union Minister of Industry in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government. He served in this position until 2004. In 2009, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Baghpat constituency as an RLD candidate.


Ajit Singh's Personal Life:


Ajit Singh was married to Radhika Singh and had three children. His son Jayant Chaudhary is also a politician and a former Member of Parliament. Ajit Singh was known for his simple and down-to-earth personality and was widely respected for his commitment to public service.


Controversies:


Ajit Singh was involved in several controversies throughout his political career. One of the most notable controversies was his alleged involvement in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. The riots were triggered by a dispute between two communities over land ownership and resulted in the deaths of over 60 people. Ajit Singh was accused of inciting violence and was criticized for failing to control the situation.


Another controversy involving Ajit Singh was his decision to merge his party with the Samajwadi Party in the run-up to the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The move was criticized by many RLD leaders and supporters, who felt that it was a betrayal of the party's core values.
