Following the election, he was appointed as the President of the BJP, a position he held until 2020. In 2019, Shah was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, from the Gandhinagar constituency in Gujarat. Later that year, he was appointed as the Union Minister for Home Affairs in the Government of India.
