Meghalaya is divided into 11 districts and has a unicameral legislative assembly. The state sends two members to the Indian parliament.

The state has one major airport, the Shillong Airport, which connects it to other cities in India. Meghalaya also has a well-developed public transportation system, including buses and local taxis.
